Eighteen Assessment Reports on Future Wastewater Treatment Energy Saving Technologies (4): Technology Review: In 2015, WERF, IWA of the American Water Environment Research Foundation and NYSERDA of the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency jointly released a report entitled Assessment of Technology Advancement for FutureEnergy Reduction. The report assesses 18 specific technology areas, including their technological maturity, impact on the industry and potential for promotion and application. The report divides 18 specific technical areas into three main themes for evaluation and analysis, which were introduced in three issues in the first two weeks. In Phase IV, we will bring you a comprehensive review and comparison of these 18 technologies in this report. The assessment results show that the mainstream short-range denitrification (such as mainstream anaerobic ammonia oxidation process) and mainstream anaerobic treatment will probably have the most profound impact on energy saving and emission reduction in the sewage treatment industry in the near future. Although there are many divergent opinions from experts, and only a high estimate of future capital expenditure and operating costs, this assessment has provided us with a deeper understanding of the technical economy. In this evaluation criterion, those suitable for new projects or renovation projects after the expiration of their service life are considered to require longer implementation time, because sewage plants generally have a longer life span and new projects will not be carried out so easily and frequently. In addition to economic benefits, experts have assessed the energy efficiency of these technologies. Energy efficiency assessment is to assess the impact of a technology on energy consumption and emission reduction of the entire sewage plant, rather than comparing it with the energy consumption of existing commonly used processes. Experts point out that it is difficult to estimate the energy impact of a single process without considering the operational and nitrogen and phosphorus removal requirements of other sewage recovery plants.
